It's Not Just His Last Name

It is understandable, simply because we are largely a people who rarely search for the real meaning of things;

(Proof of which being, we are not all called philosophers.) that the average person doesn't know about the primary title of Jesus.

Consequently when most people refer to Jesus Christ, they are thinking first and last names. Of course most Christians, when caused to think or comment on this subject will clarify and say that the name Christ has something to do with Jesus' relationship with God. Actually the name Christ is the foundation of Jesus' relationship to God. If Jesus is not the Christ, then we have been completely duped. Although the spelling "Messiah" is only mentioned twice in the Bible, both in the book of Daniel and the spelling "Messias" is found in the New Testament. We know that Hebrew word is a very significant word. It means "Anointed One."

Quite a few verses reveal to us that the Almighty God, the Heavenly Father, has consecrated His only begotten son to carry out a mission upon this earth. He has been anointed, because He qualifies (measures up to the requirements) of what it takes to redeem a lost race back to their creator and make them to be acceptable to the holiness of a righteous God. Because God has singled out this only one who can accomplish the plan of redemption, then that removes anyone else from qualifying or being the Messiah. John 1:41 tells us definitely that the title, Messias is to be interpreted as Christos in the Greek known as Christ in this English speaking world.

The word Christ is found over five hundred times in the New Testament, only referring to Jesus. Both names are found together a good majority of those times. When they are used separately, there is no doubt as to who they are referring to.

The name Jesus, God given to Mary, is the name that we use when referring to the person. The name Christ, drawn from the lips of those who handled him, is the name we use when we refer to his mission from God.

The Bible tells us in Philippians two that God gave the name Jesus to the intent that every tongue shall confess and every knee shall bow to that name. There is none other name given from heaven whereby we must be saved. There is no other way to come to the Father except by that name. His sheep know His voice and they follow Him, and anyone else is a thief. Most importantly; the only way to be saved is to call upon the Name of the Lord. Romans 10:13 With a believing heart and a confessing mouth.

We quote scripture when we insist that the only way for a person to be saved is by, "believing on Jesus."

This is the truth. But it runs deeper than, "believing in Jesus." Many believe in Jesus, including the devil himself and they do not hold everlasting life. They are on their way to the pits of hell. I reckon that the difference is that they only believe with their head, not their heart. Only a fool denies that Jesus, who told us who he was, is God in the flesh. Since He is God, we are hopelessly lost without Him. A person that has the indwelling spirit of Christ, Romans 8:9, has the nature to soulfully accept additional truths concerning Jesus as they grow in grace. First thing we believe is that God loved us enough to give his son for us.

Second thing is that we believe that Jesus died for our sins on the cross. (not stake.) Thirdly, we believe that Jesus was buried, being truly dead, not swooned and spent three whole days and three whole nights in a sealed tomb.
Fourth thing; we believe that he retrieved His life, because it is eternal, and came out of that tomb. Now He gives that eternal life to anyone who will receive it by faith. The Christ of God is fulfilling His mission by bringing a remnant of the lost world unto God up until this very hour. It may be completed at any moment! Merry
