More Valuable Than Gold

Psalms 119 has a running theme of David's commitment to the word of God. He said that he loved the testimonies and the precepts of God's Word. This is the unusual trait of all people who know the Lord personally.  While the world looks at the Bible as a collection of do's and don'ts, believers get an entirely different message from the word of God.  Psalms 119:127  "Therefore I love thy commandments above gold; yea, above fine gold."
Whenever a sinner becomes aware of the love of God and then experiences the grace of God, then the Word of God takes on a brand new light.  David said in Psalms 40:16 that we who love His salvation, will magnify the Lord. Salvation, which is part of the work of God in the eternal life plan, is the part that we relate to on this world. We know that God has saved us from our sin and from the penalties of our sin. He has forgiven us of our sin and forgotten them entirely. The more we realize what He has done for us, the more we love Him. The only way we can realize His plan and His love, is by reading and studying His Word. This is why we love his word.  The Word of God is chock full of promises. The Word of God reveals the eternal purpose of God regarding those of us who put our faith and trust in Him through His only begotten son.  The Bible gives us an exciting future!
The most important question of this article is, Why do the children of God love his word? The answer is found in the question. We believers are God's children. In the normal family, there are parents and children. Children have a unique relationship to the parents. The parents have a set of do's and don'ts that they hold for their home. The children obey the house rules because they know the love that builds the rules. This is a normal home. This relationship is the same with believers and their heavenly father.
When we realize that God has given us his word to guide us in every circumstance and event of this earthly life. When we know that the word of God is there for our protection and sustenance, when we experience the outcomes of obedience to the word of God, it is not long before we will put our complete trust and reliance upon the word of God.
There is an age old question as to how to differentiate between the true possessors of Christ from the professors.  There must be a number of clues, but one of the main ones has to do with the attachment to the Word of God. The lost world hates the Bible. The lost world is doing all that it can to disavow the Bible. Sure, we must never forget that the devil himself is the primary source of all attacks upon God's word and any who believe it, but we as humans will express a disdain for the Bible or a love for it. It has always been the continual best seller. It is the most popular book in civilized countries. Every born again Christian will go to great lengths to have their own personal copy. Now, it is true that many homes have a Bible but never take time to read it, but that is attributed to the fact that the Bible is handed down from generation to generation. The newest generation may not have the love for the Word of God that the past generation had.
The Bible is the ultimate answer to any religious argument whether it is accepted or not. The Bible is the only tangible communication from God to man. The story that it gives is the only reliable story of our origination, our direction and our ultimate destinations.  Any person that actually examines himself will very surely come to the conclusion that he or she is missing something and that there is somebody that is higher. The very mention of shortcoming and sin brings acknowledgment to the heart. The Bible explains it all. Yes, there is the condemnation of our sin, but with every word of condemnation there is also the offer of grace and forgiveness from a merciful  God. Jesus Christ is the most perfect solution. In the beginning was the word, the word was with God and the Word was God.
