From Faith to Faith

The only answer to man's dilemma is faith. Almighty God has set this as the key to the inheritance of Eternal life and the many blessings that He offers.  The Old Testament has various stories and incidents where simple faith wrought marvelous accomplishments and achievements for sometimes simple individuals.
Abraham, the father of faith, is our first prime example of the power of faith. A phrase about his faith is used three times in the scriptures, "Abraham believed God and he was counted righteous with God."

The New Testament opens a whole new avenue of the power of faith. Jesus appears upon the earth according to prophecies of various Old Testament prophets.  The message of the Gospel is clearly introduced. God so loves the world, that He gave His only begotten Son. Whosoever believes upon him receives ever lasting life. This is where we connect the meaning of faith. It is connected to the word belief.  Head belief does not connect with faith.  I believe George Washington was the first president of the United States and I believe he was one of the most outstanding men that ever lived. Though I believe in him, I have no reason to believe on him. I hope I believe the same principles that he did, but that belief has nothing to do with him. More to the point I do not have to have faith in Mr. Washington.

We hear the story of Jesus, we are told in the Word of God who he is. The scriptures detail the life of Jesus and his doctrine. There is a compunction borne by the Holy Spirit that Jesus is much more than an ordinary man. Like Nicodemus, we know that He is from God. We are drawn to put our entire and complete trust in this one from Galilee. We exclaim in pure faith, 'I believe.'  The head belief changes into a heart belief. The heart belief combined with a vocal confession, brings Heaven to our souls. God does his work of regeneration. We are born of God.

There are many things that happen to and for us when God adopts us into His family. We become partakers of His eternal  life. We are endowed with believing faith which according to Galatians 2:20 and other verses is His faith. All things that are accomplished in our Christian lives are accomplished through this faith. It enables us to live victoriously over the world, flesh and satan himself. Our needs are supplied through the faith that God responds to. We are able to overcome internal doubts, external accusation and spiritual attacks by faith.

The world mocks Christians because we do not have physical or tangible (to them) proof that faith produces. Some Christian movements have added to that confusion, for which there is an obvious reason. Biblical faith must be constructed upon the very Word of God. Biblical faith cannot and must not be confused with fervent wish. I can fervently wish that I would inherit a million dollars but it becomes ridiculous if I expect to inherit a million dollars. Faith should be our reaction to the promises, admonitions and commands of our Lord. I can believe God if he said it. I can expect God to fulfill it if he promised it. Remember, God answers prayer if we do not pray amiss, if it brings glory to Him and if it is according to His will. Faith is not like a gum ball machine.

Do you remember what Jesus said about faith? He said if we have faith the size of a grain of mustard seedů.. Jesus also tells us that great things can be ordered through faith. A Christian is expected to live by faith for without faith it is impossible to please God.
A student of the scriptures realizes that faith cometh by hearing and hearing by the word of God.  As we study the word of God, our faith increases and as our faith increases, we see more evidence and substance of what faith avails. What is the victory over sin and death? It is our faith.
